.kdbx vaults work with desktop tools (KeePassXC, KeePass 2.x) and across non-Apple devices.Yes. The same app runs natively on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Silicon Mac. iOS 17 / iPadOS 17 / macOS 14 or later required.
In a .kdbx file on your device, your iCloud Drive, your Dropbox, your OneDrive, or any other Files-app provider you choose. KeeForge has no servers and never sees your vault.
iCloud Keychain stores credentials in Apple's proprietary format and syncs only between Apple devices. KeeForge uses the open KeePass .kdbx format, which is readable by KeePassXC on Mac/Windows/Linux, KeePass 2.x on Windows, and Keepass2Android on Android. Your vault is portable and you control where it lives.
KeeForge opens any standard .kdbx file. The simplest path is to export from your current manager and use KeePassXC on the desktop to convert it into a KeePass database, then open that database in KeeForge. Direct in-app importers are not currently available.
Yes. No subscription, no premium tier, no paywall, no ads, no upsell. There's an optional tip jar inside the app if you'd like to support development.
Full source on GitHub under GPLv3 — github.com/crazytan/KeeForge. Build it yourself, audit the code, contribute, fork.
KeeForge is fully open source under the GPLv3 license — every line is public and auditable on GitHub. There are no analytics, no background telemetry, and no network calls except to your own cloud storage — plus the optional in-app feedback form, which only sends the message you type and visible error details when you tap Send. Your passwords never leave your control.
